Bristol Menopause Research Group (BMRG)

The Bristol Menopause Research Group (BMRG) is a collaborative, interdisciplinary forum committed to improving the understanding, diagnosis, and care of people experiencing perimenopause and menopause.

Founded by the team behind the EmpowerHart project, BMRG brings together researchers, clinicians, and community members from across the South West to co-design impactful studies and advocate for inclusive, evidence-based menopause care.

Our Mission

  • Tackling inequalities in menopause care and access
  • Supporting underserved communities across Bristol and beyond
  • Turning academic research into practical change—both in clinics and communities
  • Embedding lived experience and co-production at every stage of our work

What We’re Working On

Our current and past projects cover:

  • The link between mental health and perimenopause
  • Access to hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in primary care
  • Menopause education for GPs and nurses
  • Cultural stigma and health literacy around menopause in marginalised groups
  • LGBTQ+ menopause experiences

We collaborate with universities, community organisations, NHS services, and public engagement teams to ensure our research is grounded in real-world needs and experiences.
